Whether you’re trying to lose fat, gain muscle, or
just get a bit healthier, there are going to be
three things that require some massive adjustment:
Your nutrition
Your mindset
And your mindset about your nutrition
Way too often I see people either all in or all out, and
all out ends up in non stop gorging
All in ends up in too much restriction which leads
back to being all out
Lets look at it like this….
You’re in work & you’ve brought your packed food with you
so you can stay on track…..and because it’s cheaper
You had breakfast at home and brought a snack
for your break at 11
At break someone is passing around a few bags
of jellies, you politely refuse and have your
yogurt, berries and dark chocolate
Lunch goes by and you have your food & you’re
doing amazing & you should be thrilled…..
But you’re not…..you’re grumpy
Because you wanted some jellies too & it’s eating
away at you
3 o’clock and all of a sudden somebody whips
out a box of celebrations
You’re still annoyed about the jellies & next thing
you know you give in….i’ll just have a few
We’ve all been there
Let me be clear….eating a few celebrations isn’t going
to be ideal to lose body fat, but it isn’t going to
completely sabotage you either.
The problem is that usually they are just the beginning.
I’ve noticed something, most people have an
incredibly hard time failing on a small scale
When they slip up, it’s as if they’ve ruined
everything & they might as well keep going
Photo seems like the smart thing to do right?
But when it comes to nutrition a lot of people
just don’t think like that. When they have the sweets
or chocolate they think
“Oh well, the day is ruined now, I might as well
just eat whatever I want & start again tomorrow.”
As if that wasn’t enough to ruin your progress, if
this happens late in the week then I’ll start tomorrow
becomes I’ll start next Monday
This type of mindset is one of the biggest nutrition
mistakes I see happening, it makes you think that it’s
impossible to fix a small mistake & it encourages
giving up.
So how do you fix it?
1) Stop Refreshing Your Screen
You know the way when you’re waiting for something
to load on your computer you tend to click refresh if
it’s taking too long……you need to stop doing that with
your nutrition
There is nothing special about tomorrow or about
Monday, they are just normal days.
So if you make a mistake don’t hit refresh & start
again tomorrow or Monday
Just take a minute, accept what happened & get
back on track asap
2) Learn to Fail Small.
A lot of people find their biggest problem is that
they’re always cheating on their “diet”, whether it’s
a cheat day or just constantly messing up.
Learning how to fail small is going to be a huge key
for your success.
Everyone slips up, nobody is perfect despite people
portraying perfect lives on Instagram, so learning
how to be ok with that is important
Perfection is also insanely boring, who wants to live
a life without jellies & chocolate? Not me anyways
If you can understand & get comfortable with that
then it’ll make it easier
Think about this….
Lets say you go on holidays & you have €2000 spending
money, you’re carrying €500 to have some cash handy
but you lose it when you arrive…..
Would you go spend the rest of your cash that day? Or
would you dial it back & be a bit smarter about your
spending?
Nutrition is the same.
I am by no means saying this is easy because it
is most certainly not, but your first step is
awareness
Whether it’s getting rid of the temptation to start
again and/or the all-in attitude, your best bet towards
fixing the problem is cutting yourself a bit of slack.
Realise that messing up on one meal or snack isn’t the
end of the world…..
Master this & you will get the body, health & life you’re
looking for
